A workshop dealing with a special physical approach to a text and the realization of a text.

The basis of the workshop is a physical and vocal training, for a personal dynamic, visual and sonic preparation of an actor. We will explore and challenge the actor's physical ability and his/her imagination. We will train the capacity to maintain results and mould expressions. The actors will learn exercises given to them, as a step in the creation of their own exercises. A personal set of actions will be linked in a chain, to be repeated in different ways, working on pace, rhythm, volume, resistance and so on. Improvisations and compositions will be fixed and refined in their physical form and then they will be confronted with a text; the text is put on top of the action and both elements give and take from each other.

A characteristic of this process is to let the actor come up with a rather accidental physical form, before taking into account the psychological and perceptive ideas of the text within its logic, conflict, drama, humor, colors, etc.

We have chosen to work with Shakespeare's A Midsummer Nights Dream. We will send different monologues and dialogues to the participants from which you can make a priority list that you send us and we will then choose the final text for each one of you. We prefer to work with the texts in English but you are also welcome to learn the text in Spanish, French, Italian, Danish or German.

For the vocal training each participant is requested to choose a random text in your own language of 40 to 50 words and learn it by heart. This text should flow easily while concentrating on other things during the vocal training.

N.B: THE TWO TEXTS MUST BE LEARNED BY HEART VERY, VERY WELL BEFORE THE WORKSHOP STARTS!

The participants will work with me from 9 a.m. till 4 p.m. in the evening. You are welcome to watch videos from Odin Teatret and individual use of the working space is possible.
Participants will be accommodated in rooms for two or more persons at Odin Teatret, but if someone prefers to stay in a hotel this could be arranged and the theater will help you with the booking, of course at a much higher price.

Arrival and registration will take place Friday 2^nd of April at 5 p.m. with departure Friday the 9^th of April in the morning.

14 participants will be accepted.

Fee: DDK 4.000- (accommodation and food is included in the price)

NB: Each participant will be given a small job concerning cleaning and maintenance of the theatre.

Deadline for application is February 20^th.

On the 24^th we confirm by E-mail or regular post whether you are accepted or not and send the texts for the chosen participants. You should then make your priority list and send it to us the 26^th. You will receive the final text the 3^rd of March.

The 1^st of April at 20:00 Odin Teatret will perform ODE TO PROGRESS. If you would like to see the performance please let us know so we can arrange accommodation and book your ticket for the performance.
